About Me
Hey y’all!! My name is James Wong and I am a Taiwanese-American actor currently based out of Salt Lake City! I was born and raised in Florence, South Carolina and I started in the arts playing violin when I was 4 when I heard my sister play Minuet in G Major and thought “I can do that!” And I did! I played for about 9 years before starting theatre and focusing on that. My first exposure to theatre was in middle school where my teachers had me watch West Side Story (1961) and the PBS recording of Into the Woods. Immediately, I fell in love with Rita Moreno’s high kicks and I vividly remembering singing every part of 'Your Fault' in my German class. In my junior year of high school, I attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities where I studied voice and classical music, and that was where I decided that I was going to pursue this career.
I moved across the country to the mountains here in Utah and I’ve been studying theatre and expecting to graduate in 2024. In my time here in Salt Lake City, I performed on stage at Pioneer Theatre Company and Salt Lake Acting Company. My previous roles include Tobias Ragg in Sweeney Todd (University of Utah), Baker in Into the Woods (University of Utah), and Phantom, Brad u/s, Riff Raff u/s in The Rocky Horror Show (Pioneer Theatre Company). This May, I am going to be in the ensemble in PTC's production of Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812. I plan to move to New York City after graduation to continue my career in theatre!
